IBU

The Internationale Biathlon Union (IBU) is the international body that represents all national biathlon associations. It was founded in 1993 and has its headquarters in Salzburg, Austria. Anders Besseberg is directing the IBU as its president.

As defined by the IBU, biathlon is not only performed as a combination of cross-country running and shooting, but also in various other ways. Besides summer biathlon, there is also mountain bike biathlon, a combination of cycling and shooting.

The annual world championship and the biathlon world championship are amongst the most popular winter sporting events and attract a television audience of several million people worldwide.




DSB

The Deutsche Schützenbund (DSB) represents summer biathlon in Germany. It was founded in 1861 and has about 1.5 million members in 15,000 clubs. Its president is Josef Ambacher.

The Deutsche Schützenbund does mainly cover several Olympic shooting sports like air rifle, small-bore rifle, rapid fire pistol and air pistol shooting.

The DSB assembles several talent teams and nominates athletes for international championships.

The DSB is organizer of the annual German Championships in summer biathlon and of the German Cup in summer biathlon, an amateur sporting event.

 

TSB

The Thüringer Schützenbund (TSB) is the regional association representing summer biathlon athletes. Since 2001, Thuringian Championships in summer biathlon have been staged by the TSB. Dirk Eisenberg is president of the TSB.
